Shelly Nabukumar Kishore
Shelly is a person of contrasts. She is shy on screen but bold in real life. A person visiting her home may be taken by surprise because there is little to choose between her and the role Shalini in the serial Kunkumapoovu telecast by Asianet. She lives with her husband in their home in Trivandrum and enjoys to walk through the busy streets without getting noticed. She enjoys when someone says that she looks like that serial girl.It is my luck, says Shelly.
Shelly with Husband Kishore
Shelly doesn't have any resemblance to the ever moody Shalini in Kunkumapoovu. She was selected for her role in the serial upon her husband, Kishore C Menon's request. Kishore is the Production Controller of Kunkumapovu. At that time she was doing her PG in E-Governance. However her introduction in public shows dates back to the year 2000, when she was chosen as the second runner up for the Miss Flower Show contest helad at Kanakakunnu, Trivandrum. Her father J Nabu kumar is a civil engineer in Dubai. Her mother Sheela is a housewife and her elder brother is married and works in America. She has a sister Shibily who works as a teacher.
Shelly as Shalini
Shelly received the State Government’s award for best actress in a serial for her role in the serial ‘Thaniye’, also aired in Amritha TV. Amids this she also got the chance to play a role in director Ranjith’s portmanteau film Kerala Café. She did the role of a school girl opposite to Maniyanpillai Raju. The film was directed by Shankar Ramakrishnan. ‘It was a good experience’, says Shelly. However she expressed her sadness over the fact the serial actress never get selected for roles in Malayalam films. Meanwhile, Shelly is cast in Tamil director Ram’s latest flick ‘Thanka Meenkal’.
Talking about her character ‘Shalini’ Shelly says that she in every way different from her. “I am lively, critical, bold and says my opinion in mattersâ€, she says. Shalini on the other hand is timid and is very much an introvert. “In the serial when someone slaps on my face, mother giggles and says, “at least someone could slap you on screenâ€, says a bubbly Shelly. Even her dressing style is different from that of Shalini. Her friends are surprised when they see their friend as a meek, obedient and shy girl in the serial.
Meanwhile she does love the affection and love shown by public towards her. Most of them are interested in knowing about her personal life. Payments are better in serials, says Shelly.
